Description

An introduction to the basic principles of physics. The course includes laboratory experiments and teaches officer cadets the scientific approach to problem solving. Topics covered in this course include:

  • hydrostatics
  • vector mechanics
  • units and measurement
  • Newton's laws of motion
  • the principle of work and energy
  • kinematics and dynamics of rotational motion

Officer cadets will also develop competency in:

  • vector and scalar quantities
  • free-body diagram illustration
  • the basic principles of mechanics and hydrostatics:
    • kinematics
    • applying translational kinetics
    • vector representation of forces
    • buoyancy and Archimedes' principle
