This course consists of the theoretical and practical aspects of stability related to safe ship operation as they apply to navigation officers. Topics covered in this course include:

  • buoyancy
  • displacement
  • law of flotation
  • Simpson's rules
  • centre of gravity
  • density and relative density
  • freshwater allowance and trim
  • theories affecting trim and stability

This course includes experiments and calculation exercises.
